LD called him ‘Johnny’ at least once
LD called him ‘Johnny’ at least once
well said, Donna’s was a quality, insightful review, best thing I’ve read on AV in a while ..
Yup, just watched the 1st ep and I am in the ‘dead daughter’ - camp too; statue is a creepy tribute, the work itself a potential way of getting her back (just like that animated spider-man film where Kingpin thinks he can get his wife and kiddie back via high tech shennanigans).
With you on that - Raiders was lightning in a bottle, it’s a miracle they got it so right at all; the tone and look was never to be adequately recaptured.
Some of the CYE seasons barely even had a season-long arc though - the season where LD is cast in a Scorsese film? There are like 3 scenes focusing on it throughout the entire season (which; I fucking loved those few scenes; LD in a fake moustache was hilarious), without so much as a resolution ... my point is, Curb…
The grades have been a little low, but the reviews are generally fair - I think too much emphasis has been placed on things like continuity and season-long arcs; I personally find spending more time with this septuagenarian rich Jewish man invigorating, to somewhat paraphrase Mel Brooks ..
Just got done watching this ep and excuse me if I’ll reply with a contrary view - this felt as close as we’ll get to a Curb film - it was definitely shaggy; with at least two Leon/Larry scenes that almost felt like they’d been outlined by JB Smoove as much as by Larry (perhaps that was just a by-product of Smoove’s…
Sorry but that is rubbish and a terrible misreading of the character of Larry David.
Seth Rogen shouldn’t, he is a hack of the worst kind.
ha; well said.
She’s fucking great; good to see something interesting win a Grammy for once
Spite Store was the highlight of that episode for sure
I thought the 1st episode was classic Curb, I laughed my arse off - the 2nd ep was a bit flat though, can’t argue there ,,
The Deadspin article is years old; Deadspin has actually shut down (seriously)
Definitely upper-echelon Curb; I was looking forward to re-acquainting myself with LD and his ‘quirks’, but this episode extracted a steady-stream of honest-to-God-laugh-out-loud chuckling from me.
African-American commentariat once again proving themselves to be close to universally humorless in their rush to be offended and haughty
I respect the hell outta Dawkins, but no one does ‘exasperation’ quite like him ... in this case I share his scorn though; meme humour is the lowest of the fucking low.
The Oscar’s would’ve loved to see Lerner sit that one out ..
JK’s a leading man in plenty of stuff, I wouldn’t quite count him as a character actor ..
Ed’s insides were a rocky place, where Hi’s seed could find no purchase ...
