I hate that they call us “Americans”. It’s such a painfully inaccurate term for what country we belong to.

Uh I don’t know about other countries aside from Costa Rica and the US. But in Costa Rica we’re taught there’s only one American continent (America). The US teaches two (N and S America) which is wrong as the division between the two is man-made.

American can mean of the two continents, but it’s imprecise and prone to confusion given it’s also used for the US. Americas is pretty much always used to refer to the greater continents and removes all doubt.
