Kurt had scoliosis, really bad actually. And you know what made it worse? Playing left handed. Kurt didn't have to play that way(he was ambidextrous); he chose to. And playing in that style made the pain worse(because his spin curved to the right), and he then turned to drugs to alleviate that pain.
