If I remember correctly, they sorrrrta lampshade it once or twice of the course of the series, that the Gargoyles just keep getting seen by onlookers but that the mainstream opinion is that they're about as real as sewer alligators.
Plus Elisa has an outside life, as we see hints and glimmers of in the coming episodes. It actually made her feel like a real person. Also, her fashion sense is way better than April's.
Only thing more alienating than being a gargoyle is being a gay gargoyle.
Elisa's VA had some guest spots on TNG and DS9, I believe.

When Goliath and Elisa share that flirty little glance in Part 3, I love it that the camera switched to showing Hudson's unamused expression.
