Paul Hawkins and Alberto Ascari will tell you the Monaco harbour is salt water. You cant get much closer in an F1 car to the ocean than Monaco, close enough to literally drive off the course and into the sea. Valencia has a nice waterfront, complete with a leg of the F1 street circuit.

Having to deliver torque at a range of RPm/loads like when directly driving the wheels requires compromises in cam timing, spark, etc. When the motor is optimized at just one load…
