The problem with plug-in cars is in most citys you can't plug them in. In Brooklyn, my hood, a driveway or private garage are about as rare as a White Buffalo. And if your lucky you my find a parking spot in front of you house once a month. So the place where a plug-in will do the most good, it's not practical to own
