I think that places you as slightly older (and slightly more authentic) than me, because my thought was "where else was I supposed to find a Marilyn Manson shirt that fit a fat kid when I was 16?"

I feel like Xander was flawed, had a sense of entitlement regarding women (though as you say, he was called on it, if not by his friends at least by karma), and could be shitty, but also was an unfailingly loyal friend, and I could forgive him.
