totally agree, and kinda surprised that a car site would buy into so many of these old wives’ tales without the faintest efforts of verifying their truth

sinkholes are the real life replacement for quicksand (that we were all primed by cartoons as a child to fear)

jebus. centimeters from a very different outcome. that plow braking pre-impact saved this dude’s life.

0F and -20F rounds to “really fucking cold” either way.

yeah, that complaint rang hollow for me too - too many mental gymnastics needed to bridge the gap between the photo and the words

my 98 maxima had side air bags, that I’m pretty sure saved my life. I credit that car with my life in any case. In 2003 a texting red light runner nailed me right in the driver’s door, broken c2, internal bleeding, an overall great time. better than being dead, though!

You realize that’s both dangerous and illegal in some states, right?

so, is police confiscating and reviewing dashcam footage a thing in the US? on one hand there are privacy concerns and I would think a warrant would be needed. on the other hand, they are cops.

hah. makes me want to start putting “patient states...” in my progress notes. you know, like “patient states they quit smoking last month, while reeking of cigarette smoke” and “patient states they have been compliant with their prescription, despite evidence strongly suggesting otherwise”

...Echo, echo. So don’t write new movies, just rerun them by changing the locations....

not sure if you know this, but it really is featured in the video game Borderlands.

or my favorite:

you see the story above where dude got drunk at home and never drove, went down from his apartment to get something out of his car and passed out, cop acknowledged that he wasn’t driving and yet appeals all the way to the state supreme court wouldn’t overturn conviction? you want that guy to lose his car too?

I completely agree that we need to ramp up efforts to prevent drunk driving.  I completely DISagree that more checkpoints is the answer - checkpoints are already super iffy so far as constitutional rights go, we definitely don’t need to be telling the police we want more of them.

“...which makes the person nauseous if they consume...”

“There are no real consequences in Wisconsin. And I’m sure many other states”

wish they could ride their cell phone to work while taking a nap.

“I don’t know why people act like it’s a relatively new phenomenon”

i’m mesmerized watching the windshield wiper on the crash in gif at the top of the article

were the old tests done at higher speeds, or are the new crumple zones responsible for absorbing the energy that’s bouncing these old cars all over the place?   the cars seems to stay put better in newer tests.
