Variety is needed for the gameplay, however, the issue are the weird gimmicks or just things that give advantages to certain characters, as a matter of fact, just playing on flat stages do give certain characters advantages over others...this is why they don’t use solely Omega stages in tournaments.

Here’s the thing. In Mario, you are playing alone (most of the time) against the game. In a Smash tourney, you’re playing against someone else and the set of skills to be tested is how well you fare against your opponent in certain aspects of the game to make it viable competitively. The stages, whatever, they’re part

The thing is, you can do that. However, some stages favor certain matchups and give some players who main a specific character an unfair advantage, hence why some stages need to be banned because the competition is about other aspects of the game other than abusing stage gimmicks.

Even so, nobody plays Fox ditto on FD 100% of the time...It’s just a misconception (hence, the joke) that people have towards Melee tourney players in which they think they only use the top tier character in the most “balanced” stage of the game.

Welp, flat stages aren’t exactly balanced anyways, at least not if you play them all the time.
