I would recomend watching the 3 movies or the old anime first, great stuff and you will understand the setting and story better

It’s a Seinen (for adults) manga /anime.Shonen are the manga/anime suitable for younger peole (like bleach, one piece, pokemon e.t.c) Otherwise I agree with you,it was a fantastic first episode.Glad that someone appreciates it
