Johhny- Can’t speak to all of the sites, but when I worked with iStock a few years back, the pay was dependent on the license type and size the purchaser paid for. They don’t own your photography outright, but their are some wicked nasty clauses in the contract if you ever try to revoke your work from their DB.

I’d really be cautious about selling to Getty Images (iStock Photo). I used to sell a bit of my good “stock” photos there, but their business practices are terrible. One of their alternate sources of income is to release their images to creative commons under dummy corps, give them about 6 months to propagate around
