I spend most of my time hiking in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and the blazes up there are always only one, but if the trail goes right, the blaze is angled 45 degrees to show the path goes in the direction of the angle. I’ve never seen these symbols anywhere while I’ve hiked in the western states. Different, but…

When backpacking, on particularily long trips, I almost always share a two man tent. Easy way to drop 2 pounds from your pack and keep the temperature warmer in the tent. You definitely spoon in those tents, but really, you are just sleeping in the tent. Unless, it starts to rain for a whole day.

I’ve spent quite a bit of time in the back country, and I would say I’ve had no problems with Lithium Ion AAA or AA batteries, don’t go with the basic ones. Those are always junk, especially if you are camping in alpine areas or on the shoulders of the year where the weather can leave Alkaline batteries useless.
