Brandon Sanderson is one of my current favorite authors. His Mistborn series is very good (2 trilogies), but I like his Stormlight series best - anxiously awaiting the 3rd book coming out in November.

I have the same problem, though I think it’s because I grew up with a lot of sarcasm and sneering contempt, like it was the normal way to speak to people. I do try to keep mentally reminding myself to stay kind and respectful during conversations, it seems to help some.
