Your Ford is leaving a wee bit on the table

Ford GT90.

Always liked the look of these. Such a shame the V8 never got the manual option.

How does that fit in a FWD car????

Of course there’s a Mountain Dew in the cup holder.

Having lived with a Tesla Model S, it’s a little different experience when your gauges / navigation / infotainment / backup camera / etc. lock up and you have to call support who basically says “yeah, that happens...you need to hit (Tesla equivalent of) <Ctrl-Alt-Del>.”

This.

I think the investor fear is seriously overblown, but the comparison to tech is not totally off base. Things like 3D printers have the potential to disrupt (gag I hate the way start-ups use this word but it applies here) the auto industry in a major way.

I totally agree with this. While there are things I wish they were faster at I am perfectly fine with how they move now. The Tech Bubble is getting too much to bear these days.

Because it isn’t technology itself that allows for the company’s nimbleness. It is the style of management. The tech sector has created the greatest shift in management in decades due to the lean startup model. Most automakers are still using old market-forecasting/long product development cycles that result from

Also, tooling is a bit bigger of a deal with cars than electronics. Stamping body panels is a bit more complex than injection molding a cell phone body. The only thing comparable in electronics are the chips themselves...which are much, much higher volume than any car out there, and are on a several year design cycle

When your tech device starts acting erratic, turn it off and on again. Try that in your car while heading through Atlanta on the interstate.

So much this. A friend reprogrammed his phone in a weekend, giant car companies can’t move fast. Period. Takes months and millions of dollars to make any changes to a car, whereas a team of techs can change programs in days

This is entirely my perspective on the expectation that Auto OEMs should be like the Tech Giants. When an OS update screws up your phone or computer they just push another update. You can’t just push another powertain onto a consumer if you fuck up your validation.

Never thought about that. That's a good point, thanks for sharing.

No no no, it’s Google thinking ahead. Right around the time that the car becomes sentient and starts plotting to take over the world, the transmission will break. Thus, a failsafe.

The C4 Corvette ZR-1 is still a bucket list car for me to drive.
