Yep, this just screwed me over - just got to the end of the last phase of the final battle, got surprise insta-killed, and then fell afoul of the second option and erased an hour of progress. It’s really soured me on the game.

The real shocker here for me is that Mortal Kombat 1 was apparently the 8th best-selling game of the year? Wow.

Tetra Master is actually a fun game when you know how to play it, but it’s absurd that they went to such lengths to obfuscate the rules. I vastly prefer it to Triple Triad, but only because I went out of my way to learn it.

This show made me wish I’d done a degree in Textile Design

I still have to check out Monarch! I’ll take that as a recommendation - I’m waiting for the inevitable next time Apple offer me a trial, I’ve never taken them up on it before.

I was just thinking about how the Hollywood Godzilla movies have nosedived into Transformers territory at speed (which, to be fair, is more or less the same trajectory the original movies took too) and then a giant robot hand erupted from the Pyramids of Giza.

It’s rare that I experience a story that works so well for me on a macro level while consistently irritating me on a micro level. The plot at large benefited from some really smart choices about how to integrate Harry, Kraven and Venom coherently in a condensed narrative. Moment to moment though, it was kinda

Same, it’s a classic. The inclusion of the Scarlet 3 suit here is probably the standout in an extremely bizarre line-up: people hate that thing so much that editorial scrapped it after three issues in reaction.

That’s a bummer that they couldn’t stick to the traditional pronunciation, especially when the original language and culture already has a tough time with preservation.

AC6 went from a game I liked in NG to a game I loved in the two subsequent playthroughs. It’s kind of shocking how quickly you’ll blast through + and ++ too: unlocked parts aside, replaying those levels you’ll be amazed how good at the game you’ve become without really noticing.

It’s still there but it’s vastly more forgiving now!

The thing I miss most is print media and demo discs. Some of my strongest gaming memories are of games I never even owned: demos I played over and over, or even just games I would read about and imagine. In an era when there are so many games available for free or included in subscription services, it’s funny to be

XVI isn’t an outlier in as much as there just continues to be a massive schism between FFs 1-10 and FFs post-10.

VI & IX best moogles.

Funnily enough, as a huge Devil May Cry fan I feel more or less the same way. I had hoped that the combat system would make up for the things I miss about FFs 4 through 10, but in retrospect that was silly of me - while the combat is perfectly serviceable and occasionally spectacular, it doesn’t really matter to me

Those picks make perfect sense given the game they’ve ended up making. All excellent in their own way.

Yeah that’s more or less my attitude towards it. And if they’re determined to never go back to turn-based, then at least making the combat snappier and more satisfying a la DMC should be more fun than the nadir that was the paradigm system, or XV’s lethargic controls.

This is a very blinkered take. The deal was blocked because it is legitimately a problem for the growth of an emerging industry - just because it’s not immediately relevant to gamers doesn’t mean it’s not real.

It might stretch the definition of ‘game’, but Virtual Springfield was one of the best licensed videogames of its time. I’ve not kept up with the Simpsons much since it went off a cliff at the start of season nine, but I assume Springfield remains an excellent setting to just explore.

With that said, if actual African people feel it was a racist depiction then I’ll just take their word for it, I don’t want to advocate for something that hurts peoples’ feelings for no reason.
