The aerodynamics would be poor but this should get great mileage and even handle decently. That design is awesome for a big whopping battery pack running the length of the car.

Rear wheel drive carbon shell BMW with amazing 0-40 mph times. Oh, and great on gas! The BMW i3.
I thought Tesla was game changing because they didn’t make you deal with sleazy dealerships and their hardball selling tactics?
But you don’t trumpet a product evolution in the desktop as mattering to mobile phones.
“Why does this matter? Because as the automotive world seems poised to put all of its eggs in the electric car basket, Mazda is proving the gasoline internal combustion engine still has plenty of untapped potential. The future of energy and transportation should be a future full of choices, so this is an exciting…
The question no one ever asks is why they’re there in the first place The Germans and the Japanese didn’t get to keep the shrines and statues of their leaders. It’s an insult to all the families of allied soliders who gave their lives fighting evil.
I’m going to regret weighing in but here goes: “The point” here is “agitated group ends up hurting the very people they’re supposed to be defending” That can take many forms (physical, financial) and some are worse than others. But that’s the point.
Are you doing the deep South thing here where Southern Civil War leaders are considered well meaning patriots who just happened to be on the losing side of history?
I hear you. I’m still struggling with the transition. But it’s a real thing now.
I think the iPace (EV) might be a Tesla killer. A snob brand, priced around the M3 (Tesla), sexy, 200+ mile range BUT an SUV vs sedan. It’s that last piece I think that’s the dagger.
Thanks for pointing this out! You hear this misunderstood statement over and over again “Well, if you signed a waiver, you’re out of luck!” as though the waiver now means the owner of any such said service can completely check out on safety and maintenance now. (and let’s not get into what the owner signs up…
The biggest challenge here is we are 5-10 years out from autonomous electric vehicles controlled by rider apps. Today those are nearly all 4-6 seaters. But build a 12 seater one that runs a pretty set route and the economics make it work down to the $1 for 2-3 mile range. So you’ll get the economics + environmental +…
Wasn’t the big ding on the previous model that it was fairly underpowered? Did they fix that?
TBH there’s a very good chance oil prices do stay low for a very long time. China is slowing, alternative fuels are increasing and supply was altered forever by fracking. If you’re hoping that higher gas prices are the answer to driving down fossil fuel consumption, it might be a tough strategy to pull off.
So bitter sweat. A 2008 gti after 18 months. Loved the car. But it was brutal on my back (I’m 6'4") I think it was getting in and out as once in, it was incredibly comfortable. Took a bath on a new car depreciation, but within 4-6 weeks I was standing fully upright again.
When they’ve shipped more than a handful of models?
“Daimler also boosted its average transaction price by about $4,700, according to TrueCar Inc.’s ALG.” This isn’t evidence of raising prices, per your comments around it. This is more about the mix of vehicles sold. ie - this tells us so they sold more of their expensive vehicles relative to their cheaper ones,…
There are two components to range anxiety - battery size and availability/ease of recharging. The counter to your point is that, in your 10 year example, charging stations will be abundant and fast. So you’ll spend 5 minutes at a charger at the beach, or wherever and get 50 miles and go home. Basically not much longer…
I never once saw that Mustang going in a straight line. I wonder if he made it to the top on the same set of rear tires he started with.
A single friend of mine, back in the day, got a VW Cabriolet (arguably very much a woman’s car) He said it was great and confusing because woman looked at him a lot more. He didn’t know what part was him and what part was the car.
