I hypothesize that the tech is not the problem but instead the inability to properly manage resources. Many anime studios are notorious for overworking and underpaying the staff. We commonly see rushed jobs and imperfections even in 2-D anime, Dragonball Super being a recent and famous example.

I’ll admit, CG can work in anime sometimes (Land of the Lustrous), but for the most part, it looks downright ugly. I don’t understand the recent focus on 3D CG anime because they almost all look like complete ass and ruin the experience.
