Yeah, my mom died last year, and I actually really appreciated people sending condolences on Facebook because I did not have the energy to deal with people in person at the time. I also really appreciated the cards and other things that came in the mail, and a lot of people did both — Facebook and a card or something…

When my mom died I was really comforted by all the kind words on Facebook, from people who I talked to every day on down to those I’m just “FB friends” with. And I still have those words now, I can look at them and continue to take comfort in them (and sometimes I still do when I’m feeling blue). To each their own.
