Yes! I've used the first level Rosetta Stone on trial with Japanese, German, and Italian. I learned that in order to retain what you learn, you have to do consistently and thoroughly. Skipping days, doing too much on one day, and skipping lessons hurt me in the long run, as I quickly forgot much of what I had learned.

Yeah I only found out when I almost dropped my phone and grabbed the screen. I left some cool looking Swype-esque marks!

In terms of free options, I think GO Keyboard is best alternative. It comes with a swype-style input (although its not heavily advertised) and it has great customization, prediction, and theming options.
