I've been a fan of Deerhunter for awhile but I became a fan of Bradford specifically when I saw Atlas Sound open for Stereolab on their last tour. He was out in the crowd with a huge, wide-eyed grin for the entire Stereolab set. Being a big fan myself, It was one of those, "I know this guy, he's like me…" kind of…
Well if you are looking for an updated surf sound with some more energy check out the Shivas on K Records. I had never heard of them before I saw them in concert and had a great time.
I still love them live but I see where you are coming from. Shana has a super low-key personality on stage and has a pretty relaxed stage banter. Not sure who the opener was for the concert you went to but, if it was the Shivas, then they may have suffered in comparison to that bands high energy.
Why did you give this episode a D… oh, I see what's happening…
I prefer "The Feral". Reminds me of Feral Boy from the Civic Minded Five.
My work gym plays surprisingly good music… Walkmen, Deerhunter and a lot of good pop. There is one song with this guy screaming about "Heavy Mail" that comes up regularly that is truly awful. Anyone know who that is?
I like how the singer enunciates… so I can understand all the words
Taking all the combinations into account I'm partial to Ezra Ray Cracker…
I was hoping it was just Colbert and a saxophone… Maybe a little Kareem on staff for good measure… *music joke*
Absolutely… that video cheers me up every time!
I kind of like that one but mainly because the Wolf reminds me of "The Never-ending Story" when the wolf guy is talking to Atreyu prior to the final fight…
I'm so far behind on this band… I still listen to 'It still moves' all the time and it is always a pleasant surprise when tracks from Z come up on shuffle… Should I pick the new one up or Circuital?
S is an insanely crowded column… I noted awhile ago after alphabetizing by CDs that I have a lot of favorite S-bands most of them hitting their peak in late 90's through mid 00's.
Deerhoof!!! Lot of good D bands…
No argument here but the guitar, light jazz piano and lyrical phrasing of the song mimic Nick Drake in a particularly egregious way. A band like the Decemberist's have demonstrated some creative credibility in the past so it is a bit disappointing. **stares at Decemberist's and slowly shakes head before looking…
More like Mace Wind-shorts!
The first Green Day song that came to mind was the riff from Brain Stew and Chicago's "25 or 6 to 4". Also, with all the love that the new Decemberist's album is getting, their single "Lake Song" is such a Nick Drake rip-off during the verses I cannot bring myself to pick up the album.
Is that a young Joshua Modell on the far right of the bottom picture?
Hour of the Wolf is great as well. The first Bergman I actually saw was the Scenes from a Marriage mini-series which is brutal but powerful. (see Fanny and Alexander as well) I'll echo by saying that the God Trilogy is my favorite. Persona is classic, Cries and Wispers, The Magician, Seventh Seal, Virgin Spring… so…
