Old deserves to be higher here purely for the calcium deficiency death scene, he was nasty for that one

Old was better than Glass. Sure, it had some lousy dialogue delivery, but it gets freaky rather than stranding us in a pointless talk-therapy session.

It Takes Two might be the most phenomenally imaginative co-op game I’ve ever played.

It Takes Two might be the most phenomenally imaginative co-op game I’ve ever played.

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, I don’t care much about the punishing difficulty, if only they made respawning easier. I’m trying to S rank Cuphead right now, which has involved literally dozens of restarts against each boss, but it’s fine because restarting is easy. With From games, the bosses are crazy h

I played Human Revolution through twice, once with the director’s commentary, and they made many suggestions that their dev concepts for the Shanghai level had to be scaled down dramatically (something like 40% of the game was cut out). The back half of the game was rushed once they realized they would not have enough

It’s interesting how this comes up. Mankind Divided is both a longer and larger game than Human Revolution, albeit not by much, with more abilities, but its cliffhanger ending and smaller scale and scope means that it feels smaller.

I can’t really judge Eidos for this, since they’re probably just following orders. But yeah, Square-Enix selling off the IPs they don’t intend to use and Eidos Montreal being taken in by a publisher that’s at least adequate would be great. Sadly, all of that is probably just a pipe dream.

The fact that they cancelled Deus Ex is still my bitterest disappointment in gaming. To say it has colored my opinion of Square Enix as a publisher and Eidos Montreal as a developer is an understatement. At this point all I can do is hope that Square Enix gets bought out or sells off Eidos Montreal and the Deus Ex IP

Leaving Mankind Divided with an open ending directly speaking to a 3rd game and it not getting getting it really fucking irks me

“They” fucked it up?  They’re just the publisher.  Avengers was made by Crystal Dynamics.  GOTG was done by Eidos Montreal.

I’ll be honest: I’m glad GOTG underperformed, even if only by Square’s completely unreal standards. I am still salty over the cancellation of the Deus Ex sequel, and this might - MIGHT - cause the studio to go back to that franchise. Sure enough, Eidos Montreal’s titles are nowhere near as good as the original Deus

I hope you get bought out by Konami.

I second that. This game is fantastic. I slept on it because of Avengers as well (and also because Endgame made me really hate Chris Pratts Star Lord so I was kinda sour on the GotG) and I’m glad I picked it up in the end. These days I don’t finish most games I play, but this one made me want to keep going right up

Yeah this has Hollywood Accounting written all over it. The thing is I’m not sure to whose benefit it’s for, considering statements like this serve to only create a track record image to investors that Square Enix is a bad company who can’t make a hit. This feels like a The Producers scam that I’m not seeing the angle

... you ever get the feeling that “below expectations” involves the same kind of magical math that makes the most successful films of all time never be profitable, except for the fact that all the suits get all the money from them?

The build-up to the Rat King was fantastic, no other part of the game got my heart rate up like that stretch between turning the power on and seeing the massive bloody and terrifyingly empty hole it left behind. But like you said, the boss fight itself was so lack luster. Not being able to dodge around it meant you

I mean, it’s not really supposed to be a tactical, dynamic fight, it’s supposed to be a mad scramble just to stay alive while you unload every single bullet and pipe bomb you have into the thing. The game stocks you up plenty beforehand and there’s ammo littered everywhere in the environment where the fight takes

You mean in the gif at the top where he’s warming up the tires in the burnout box? Did you watch the video?
