I agree on 4runner, though you’ll pay truck fuel economy penalty. I’d say Subaru Outback is the obvious choice, since you can get a brand new one for $24k and it fits their bill.

I’ll argue one point - that resale value won’t go down much in the next 5 years. A 10 year old regular Cayenne with the miles they’d rack up in another 5 years of regular commuting would sell for $12-15k. That’s not much for depreciation, but it’s not nuttin.

With a $24k “max” budget, I can’t support going Porsche. But that’s no reason not to give you a star for a great pick. These are fantastic “bargains” for the amount of car.

I read this and I think to myself, “This is not bad for a $600 car”

Had an 06 Civic SI brand new and I drove it over 110k miles.

Wow that has elements of a small german sedan combined with the profile of a 2007 civic SI sedan.

Yes, and? That’s the point of that logic. Trump and Biden become the same - which there’s plenty of evidence they are pretty damn similar on the racial front - and it continues on down. When that logic is equally applied.

I voted NP on this as I’ve driven this generation with a narrow angle 6 and it’s just surprisingly fun. At this price point, a good shade tree mechanic with time on their hands could return this thing to seriously fun glory for probably $4k all-in. And $4k is my magic price for all fun to drive, cheap to buy vehicles

Some epidemiology:

Ummm, why are those tires so inflated? Those things should be flexing like crazy at proper pressures for that climb. The commenters are even talking about how slippery the rock is, those tires need to be bowing out - those look like road-level pressures from the video!

I voted CP but I actually am conflicted here. I had a 99 boxster, so I know these cars a bit. Unless that paint has actual clearcoat issues or major damage, one-day with some serious compounding/polishing/sealing should make it look really good besides I’m sure a rock chipped front end. The top looks in decent

This is not a defense of Musk/Tesla (and I think it’s ridiculous to blame the CEO for a single failed control arm based upon a random person on twitter, but let’s step aside from that).

I’ll check it out. Currently pressures are 36-37 cold but I don’t remember what the door placard says. I’ll give the dealer credit - I bought it 2 years and 3 months ago and they filled it with nitrogen....and for once, I actually believe it’s nitrogen fill. Pressures stayed rock solid from 10 degrees out to 100

CP.

As the owner of a 2018 Honda Odyssey I find these changes to be.....

I’m going to be a broken record here but this is why in the work truck segment, which makes up alot of vehicles on the roads, the first automaker that comes out and says “We practically rust-proofed our vehicles....go ahead and drive them in salty roads for 10 years and they’ll be fine.” Will see their brand increase

Vintage airplane cross-trains as vintage race-car, gets confused on the straightaway.

I once got on a P38 kick and then I went and drove one.

Yes, hope my post expressed that, it’s not just politics.

NPR, as a whole, always let me down as a news source. But I really enjoyed a few shows like marketplace.
