Amtrak is not too slow. It is too slow and inconvenient relative to the cost. Amtrak could compete with air by investing billions. OR they could compete with mega bus by hooking up more cars to less engines and selling tickets for what people are willing to pay.

Diesel is pretty tough to find used. I would definitely overpay for the diesel. Not this much though. KBB says $1,500. I’d pay double that.

Like I said, this is a government failure. Technology can and should march forward.

Why is it morally wrong to tax the hell out of dead people, when it is perfectly okay to take more than 7% of someone’s income that is in poverty. I’m middle class and I pay MORE in SSI than I do in income tax.

In my opinion we are mad

Nope. Technology is great for the macroeconomy, there is no denying that. Just take a look at instagram though. It is a 35 billion dollar company. It is worth more than Kodak ever was. Kodak employed over 100,000 people. Instagram? 13.

Simple.

Increase the progressivity of government revenue.

Agreed. It is only better if it is more efficient. It is the role of government to decide how the wealth of gained efficiency is distributed. Of course, they fail at that in my opinion. it is not the role of society to railroad progress in the name of jobs.

Robots are coming for skilled workers too.

New technology, if more efficient, always improves productivity and the macroeconomic economy. Even a century ago it was not good for displaced workers. When there is a major shift in labor demand because of technology there is a tendency for wealth to concentrate. Cue government role in helping mitigate that impact,

Is that just sevens?

Rugby rules. The scorer kicks. Damn big kick lobby.

Perhaps in high value metro areas this makes sense, but there is no way this makes sense in most of America: Annual renovation and maintenance costs of 1% home’s current value for owners.

If I could roll up the TV and put it away my wife would let me get a larger TV.

If the hammock is so great, why are you working?

I don’t mind advocating a position. I think the mortgage interest deduction is stupid. It isn’t a good reason to buy a house EVER, particulary for the poors. Same applies to the ultra wealthy though, it isn’t a reason to buy a house that costs more than 1 million.

To be fair, home ownership costs vary widely from

To be fair it was in response to somebody stating that anything less than a $1,000 suit is not acceptable. I lust after a custom tailored suit but I would have to totally rearrange my priorities to upgrade my wardrobe. My wife and I spend about $2,000 on “apparel & services” each year. We do receive some clothing as

I’ve been failing to try and time the bond market. I’ve been staying away from it for three years, waiting for rates to rise. Given the low yields, I really haven’t lost out at all.

Interest is deductible on only the first $1 million of debt used for acquiring, constructing, or substantially improving the residence, ($500,000 if filing separately).

It’s pretty clear based on the NBC playoff narratives last year that a bunch of other qbs were specifically requesting their equipment managers to push the limits of legal. This narrative was constant during a few games, Packers in particular. Once Brady got “busted”, that narrative went silent.

Yeah, I used to pay over 1% working for a small municipality. Now I can get Vanguard’s total stock market index for .05%.

I bet it depends on how you define usually. Many fortune 500 companies have expense ratios in their 401k that are less than .1%. However, smaller business often see expense ratios exceed 1%. Any Joe can get .2% in an IRA, but it doesn’t mean they do.
