My experience has been that frontal area of a trailer is what really impacts your fuel economy. Weight impacts your acceleration and braking, and length impacts your maneuverability. But frontal area (aka, drag) is what impacts you for the big parts in the middle.

I don’t know that it’s really the weight that’s as much of an issue as it is the tremendously increased drag.  I don’t think our truck cares much whether the trailer is empty or full, it’s more about pulling a parachute behind you at 70 mph that seems to be it’s problem.  Weight does factor into it, but once you’re…
