Well multi party systems could use some checks as well. Just look at Brexit and some of the other places in Europe where there were so many parties, that the radical right was able to gain more power than it actually represented.

Actually, it is EXACTLY how it is supposed to work. We live in a Republic, not a Democracy. The system was designed from the get go to both limit the powers of the one (no monarchy or dictator) as well as curb the dangers of mob rule.
