Her spelling words for this same week in first grade included bathtub and costume. So, not quite.
A) It’s not the Common Core’s fault here. The Common Core dictates concepts which should be mastered, not materials.

You uhhh... toughen up as you train. But the first few rides are indeed tough. Meredith Atwood, who blogs as Swim Bike Mom, also keeps “the queen” bald to prevent ingrown hairs. It’s not a sexy sport. ;)
A TT bike isn’t going to help you a whole lot on a hilly course. Yes, it’s faster, but the engine is more important than the bike.
The trick is to spend enough on gear that your equipment isn’t going to get in your way. When your skill level surpasses your equipment, that’s a great time to upgrade.
Oh goodness. He went straight for a half Ironman? In that case, there’s probably no talking him out of a $6,000 bike. He went in headfirst.
LOL When I did my first tri, two women (this was an all-ladies event) showed up with the deep-handled banana seat bikes. There were some who made unkind comments about it, but the bikes looked pretty sweet.
Bicycles are also a great transportation option for kids in countries where they have to travel quite far to go to school.
