If you look at the CW Supergirl show, you’ll see that her costume has obviously padded deltoids, producing a wider, more traditionally masculine frame. So what? Does anyone pick that cherry to discuss how women are being masculinized?

No. Because that period never existed. There has never been a time where Hollywood and entertainment didn’t reflect the goings on in the country, or comment on it. Politics too. 

OMG I LIKED THE SHOW BECAUSE EVEN WITHOUT THE 80S-NESS ITS A SOLID SHOW WITH SOME STRONG ACTING THAT TELLS AN ENGAGING STORY WITH RELATABLE CHARACTERS, AND WORKS LARGELY FOR THE SAME REASONS THAT ITS INFLUENCES WORKED, RATHER THAN RELYING PURELY ON NOSTALGIA

I have been saying this since November for several reasons:
