Exactly. I know it’s a selfish viewpoint, but AirBNB has allowed me to travel to NYC 6+ times a year to see my friends. Hotels are less convenient (there isn’t one close to my friends’ apartments, but I often get an AirBNB within a 4-minute walk), not as nice, and more expensive.

By your logic all American corporations shouldn’t exist. Get bent buddy. I plan on drinking tomorrow night and taking a Lyft home unless you want to pay for my DUI fees and fines. I also plan on going to Hawaii with my wife and daughter next summer. I’m not rich, but I goddamn work hard and deserve a vacation. Airbnb

Ridiculous. Entrenched industries get new competition (taxis:Uber::hotels:Airbnb) and they pull enough strings to stifle said competition. Free market my ass.

It’s more of a mixed bag.

That’s rich, you call AirBnB and Uber exploitative yet completely ignore how hotels and taxis have been exploiting people for decades. A New York cab medallion cost $1 million a year ago, what the actual fuck!?

The only people complaining about Uber are the taxi services, not the actual Uber employees.

Yeah, but the taxis we’ve had forever are also exploitative and evil. There’s not really any winning there.

They don’t have to...they write off the Hampton house on their taxes anyway as a “corporate” expense.. grin

If those “long-held” beliefs are based on bullshit, then...uptight is probably on the nicer side of what you could call it. lol

I can’t help but laugh every time I hear australians refer to bikers as “bikies” it sounds so dimunitive :D

The FBI is asking for the disabling of features built into the operating system.

They want Apple to write a custom software to aid in unlocking the phone. Which is what I wrote in the first sentence. Did you get that far?

But it is a key to every iPhone. It’s not a literal key that they put in and unlocked every device, but it is still a serious security compromise.

Nobody recognizes this part of the issue. Regardless of the specifics of the request that the FBI made, the fact is that whatever that software solution may be will inevitably get out, both to other governments and even the general populace.

It goes beyond setting a precedent in the US. If the FBI gets their tool, China and probably Russia will demand it as well. then you will see the UAE demand it (as they did from BlackBerry) at some point the nerfed security version of ios and the tools to force the update will leak out. At that point the encryption

They are also asking apple to turn off the limiter that slows down your request to once an hour after too many guesses. that combined with the auto delete is the deadbolt for the back door, by removing both you are making the encryption on the phone worthless. you are infact asking apple to weaken their security.

And I’m sure the FBI will TOTALLY *wink wink* use that power for good. As they are wont to do.
