Sure, though whether Jason knew beforehand that the car had been poorly engineered doesn’t take away from my point that...the car had been poorly engineered.

Yeah, that’s true. It’s also why they’re absolutely lousy cars.
I think when people talk about reliability, they’re not assuming the sliding scale VW apologists enthusiasts use. 100k miles is nothing for any modern car or even a lot of pretty ordinary cars from the ‘80s.
One was a new GTI that within three years lost all clutch hydraulics, leaving my friend stranded on the highway unable to depress the clutch.
One was my colleague Jason Torchinsky’s wife’s Tiguan, a 2011 vehicle whose engine literally blew up despite being meticulously maintained.
Two of my friends had Touaregs, and…
These are all horrible suggestions with the exception of maybe the Honda.
This. Anyone expecting such a bargain for a German car (or really any car from that vintage) should expect a world of hurt within weeks of driving it off the lot...
That said I’m still a bit apprehensive about recommending a GTI in general, all anecdotal of course. But my MK6 kind of fell apart right around the the…
I just know far too many people who have been burned.
The problem is he bought a MK5, which is generally terrible. His budget will allow him to get a nice MK6 which is much more reliable.
Rattle traps, yes. But in stock form they are pretty bullet proof. Finding a stock 10 year old WRX is going to be........challenging.
Coming from an zzw30 owner, that’s a terrible recommendation for a daily. It’s a great weekend car. It’s tons of fun and very reliable, but there is practically zero storage in the car.
Aren’t WRXs clapped-out rattletraps from the factory? I’m not even sure I’ve ever seen a non-clapped-out WRX.
Is that the 840 or 850?
These arguments are getting ridiculous now.
I guess that range might drop a bit if you are towing a boat?
Maybe they’ll bring out the “robot” again? Beep-boop-beep!
The Model S Plaid adds about 200 miles of charge in 15 minutes (13.3 mi per minute)
Five hundred miles is more than enough. Three hundred is enough, 400 was a pie-in-the-sky wish and five hundred exceeds how far my own truck will go on one tank. I sure as hell can’t go that far without stopping.
You choose your car off of your least frequent trip? People with the money for this car are grabbing a flight and a rental. Lucid is obviously not looking at the same segment as the volt. That said the Volt is an under rated car. It’s really very good.
Aerodynamics does not favor a crossover and if they wanted to take the longest-range crown, they needed to push for as much aero as possible.
I’m looking forward to the barrage of tweets from Musky to try to detract from this.
