Just to be clear, the NC change in life sentences was not by the legislature, but was a change in interpretation by the Courts. The law says an 80 year sentence is a life sentence, and so they're now going to treat it that way. (The AG argued it just meant eligibility for parole, not the length of the sentence.)

@robina: I am so with you! I keep waiting for Glee to get good and it isn't. The pilot set up a particular kind of show with particular character arcs and most of them have been abandoned. (Whatever happened to Rachel's gay dads?) And it is a CRIME to taunt us with Victor Garber but no singing.

@sweetbeans: Yup. I think it's sweet and an appealingly un-sexy look. Tink was always way way too sexy for a character little girls dress up as.

@hortense: Am I the only one who still feels like it isn't being handled really well? I totally agree with you that it isn't any of our business and it should be filtered. That's why it irks me that he keeps talking about it and the internet keeps talking about it. I think he should have acknowledged it,

@Cimorene: I think if you compare this rape to Joan's last season there's some interesting juxtaposition. Sure, Joan's was much more violent and aggressive while Pete's was more a slow boil. But Pete's also showed definite intent from the very beginning which is in a way much more sleazy.

@flufffox: I feel the same way. Regardless of my feelings for what Polanski did (and I think most of us don't know that much about it) I will always be able to watch Chinatown and love it and make absolutely no connection. Art is art. It has more to do with your own connection than the artist's. You don't hear

@lorem oopsum: Ugh. It's funny, but every teeny and fit girl I know gained 40+ pounds in pregnancy. They're all back to teeny and fit post-baby, so it's certainly nothing to worry about.

Can I just say that the thing I noticed immediately in this episode was that the always-perfect Betty Draper had a post-pregnancy pooch! It's nice to see a woman with a new baby who doesn't look like she's ready to stand on the cover of People with the headline, "How I Lost the Baby Weight!"

At the very least you can be clear on how long you're going to be gone and what you can contribute while you're out. Make sure they're clear that they're okay with it. And remember, ladies, get it all in writing.

I understand the physical risks involved with 19 pregnancies, and it's certainly not something I'd want to do myself. However, pretty much all of those risks are the same ones you have with a single pregnancy, so it's hard to feel really judge-y. It's the psychological angle that I find much more distressing.

I would bet Goldman never had a kid. I was never one for locker room nudity once upon a time, but I have to admit those days are behind me. I draw the line at flashing boob in front of my father-in-law, but most of my modesty has disappeared for good after having my girl parts swollen to shit and out for the world

I would be seriously concerned about a guy who describes "months" following a breakup as: "Sleepless nights, long days watching Swedish movies and listening to The Smiths on a constant loop."

@kaiwhakamarie: Are you and I having the same life? I was dead set on breastfeeding, but my baby doesn't latch well and my supply is pitiful so we've been breastfeeding, bottle feeding, and pumping.

I've heard similar sentiments a lot lately. The big 3-0 is coming in a few months and I feel like I'm in the minority because I actually do kind of have my shit together. If anything, I feel thrilled that I escaped my super-conservative upbringing which would have meant I'd be firmly entrenched in housewife-dom and

@morninggloria: Good question. And I'm wondering, does girls size 16 have space for my post-pregnancy still-shrinking poodge?

The graduating from high school at 12 thing is more noteworthy than law school at 19. I started at 21, though I was a bit on the young side.

@msAnthrope: Agreed. Why we use public opinion polls to have some sway in what's actually happening is beyond me. Just because people don't *think* we're in the "age of science" doesn't mean shit. We still are. More science is going on every day and more progress is being made. Just because we as a nation are

@laureltreedaphne: I think there are plenty of great female tennis players right now. In fact, the women's game is much more interesting than the men's these days, since the rankings seem to be constantly up in the air. I would've preferred something besides a Williams/Williams final, but mostly because I find

@thegogglesdonothing: I agree. Ideally it shouldn't be an issue. However with the completely astonishing lack of female directors who actually get good projects, we need the attention. And she makes quite the poster child.

@Unsolicited Advice: Exactly. Sotomayor fell exactly where Souter, the Justice she'd be replacing, fell. So where is the controversy about that?
