Seriously, who were all these people? It looked like random people were just walking on camera whenever they felt like it. Don't they usually try to control that stuff for press conferences?

@Jello Mix: I was jubilant when my husband not only brought up the subject but said he'd happily volunteer to be the one to get snipped when the time came. He's a good man.
I don't think Spencer understands the point of a Psych test for a reality show. Reality shows star people that ARE crazy. So he passed it. In that he's nuts.
I adore Sarah Waters. I've already read The Little Stranger because I couldn't stand to wait. (Though it doesn't have any of her normal gay themes or characters, I still enjoyed it.)
@Little Green Frog: Yup. It was not a case about the issue at hand, not to determine whether it's right to do it. But there are rules you follow to make laws retroactive. If you don't follow them, then everybody knows it's not retroactive.
@viklane: I feel the same way. For a while she stayed off camera and it was easier, but ever since she's been coming front and center again, I just feel so sad for her. How difficult must her life be right now? And how does being this kind of "spokesperson" make it any better? It all reeks of politics and it makes…
@SarahMC: ball-cutting cybersuccubus: I always think the same thing when I hear those kinds of statistics. Just because kids who married at 20 are still married doesn't mean they're happy. I figure if you get married that young, you've tied yourself into something it's going to be significantly harder to get out of…
@Your Screenplay Sucks: This is why I have a one-week rule ever since The 400 Blows languished for two months. If I don't watch it in a week, I send it back and stick it in the bottom of my queue. It also works as a great motivator to actually watch it if I know the clock is ticking down.
@amowls: I was surprised no one's mentioned the Salon article from a week or so ago on women who leave Quiverfull families. They are not all happy.
@hooooooot: There are definitely problems with double standards on both sides of the issue. I think it shows how inherently unequal issues of woman-on-man or man-on-woman violence can be.
Actually, Mary Stuart Masterson DIRECTED The Cake Eaters. Big difference. Especially since female directors get little credit or attention these days.
Just saw it, and have to say, these critics are bugging me. Since when do the plots of kids movies have "narrative focus"? Since when is a girl who is independent, bossy, and imaginative called "unpleasant"? The movie is really, chiefly, an exercise in the craziness of imagination. I think these reviews were…
I really can't say if it's accurate. As a former Mormon who spent a good deal of time in Utah, there are at least 3 times an episode where I roll my eyes and say, "They would never do that." But there are usually an equal number of times when they get it right on.
I thought the article pushes it a bit with that whole sexualizing angle. The original Tale of Two Sisters has no real sexual component involving the young girls. Instead, it taps into the emotional closeness that girls tend to have more than boys. My guess is that's the reason for the hyper-sensitivity thing. …
It doesn't surprise me that this story is from the UK. Many states in the US have already dealt with this disparity by creating laws that give additional support to a spouse who has given up their career to support the other spouse with schooling, work, etc.
While I'm extremely curious about what's really going on here and what it says about our child protective systems in this country, the speculation is getting a little crazy.
@shaken.not.stirred: I completely agree. In an ideal world, there would be no gender categories. But as it is, women get nowhere near the roles that men get. Period. How many women do you see winning the non-gendered awards? Since 1990, only 9 women have won a screenwriting award compared to 40 men. Only 3 women…
You know, now and then during the campaign I would stop hating her and think, "Maybe she's just being really badly handled. Maybe the campaign is just messing it all up."
I'm barely 10 weeks pregnant and I'm already sick to death of hearing about how pregnancy supposedly works. Can we just accept that every woman's pregnancy is different?
@BlondeGoddess: I completely agree. Both characters are victims, though they're kind of victims of their own expectations and actions. If anything, you have to give April, the character, credit for doing something.
