Is it just me or do the moving pictures look like they belong in Hogwarts?

I got into lucid dreaming years ago after a weird experience with waking up during sleep paralysis. One of the common techniques was to train yourself to recognize a symbol or trigger to mean you’re dreaming and that you could then control what was going on. I think there were even devices that would flash light on Read more

This is weird. The 4K version does feel like it was done on a smartphone, but there’s also some strangeness around the edges. I guess that’s an artifact of the interpolation? Read more

Will Cyborg still say “booyah” in this version?  I almost had to turn the movie off when I heard that line.  It was pure cringe.

Interesting article, but I always thought the concept of sexism was central to the story. The camera makes a clear effort to do close-ups of men’s faces and show them looking directly at the viewer, which gives an eerie feeling of them invading your personal space. Clarice is a young woman trying to get ahead in a Read more

It’s interesting that Rose McGowan, who has been very vocal about women’s abuse in the entertainment industry - including her own - and who dated and was engaged to Marilyn Manson, said her experiences with him weren’t like those that Wood and others claim; but that has no bearing on the issue and that she’s proud of Read more

Ooof. I saw “Johnny Mnemonic” in the theaters when it came out. I think it was the only time I’ve ever buried my head in my hands in a movie theater. Truly an awful, stupid movie that even Henry Rollins couldn’t save (although he had a fun part). Read more

Kinda interesting. I wasn’t familiar with it being called a “limb difference” until I read this article. I mean, there will always be people who are cruel to someone who’s “different,” but of the many folks I’ve met in my lifetime that didn’t have regular limbs of some sort or another...they were just regular folks Read more

Rob Bricken: This synopsis was quite funny and pleasing to read. Some of your finest work. ;)

Ah yes, modern Republicanism:  It’s only a real problem when it affects me personally.  To hell with anyone else’s suffering.

Maybe it’s because it allows one to fuse a phone and tablet into one unit.  Web browsing, maps, readers (ebooks, PDFs, etc.), notes, email could all benefit from a bigger screen than what you traditionally get from a phone.  The real question is how important that is vs. the cost.

Yes, the score to Children of Dune was fantastic! I once play it for a friend. He loved “My Skin is Not My Own” so much that he used as part of a martial arts routine.

I’m actually surprised you praised the costume design of the Dune miniseries. It was pretty godawful, and actually got criticized quite heavily at the time. One of the biggest complaints was the headgear. Everyone wore these ridiculous, over-the-top head pieces that simply took away from the story. And don’t get me Read more

Second this.  Children of Dune was definitely much better, and they learned to cut back on the costumes a little.

I don’t get this idea that Luke was apolitical and didn’t like or dislike the Empire.

In the scene where he’s with Obi-Wan after viewing Leia’s recording, Obi-Wan tells Luke he should learn the ways of The Force and join him to Alderaan.

Luke’s like, I gotta get back home and do chores, dude! Then he specifically says, Read more
