“What? No multiplayer?! No buy!”

How have they weaseled out of anything multiplayer related? They’ve been upfront about how multiplayer works since like day one. Sure, they could have been way more transparent on plenty of things but multiplayer is not one of them and yet it’s one of the biggest causes for confusion among naysayers I’ve seen.

It’s been clear for literal years now that the game is exploration/survival based. Resource gathering, trading, getting to the center of the universe, etc... We’ve known about (and have been shown) all of this for quite some time now.

To me it is quite obvious what this game is if you have been following it at all. I haven’t played it but from what I’ve heard it sounds exactly like what I expected and what was advertised/promoted.

Game Play, 10937 Venice Blvd. :)

Culver City, eh? Any hints on where one can find this store?

I’m not a NMS fanboy and I’m not talking about strawmen, I’m talking about the sizable number of “cool guys” trashing the game from an uninformed perspective. If the game isn’t someone’s thing, that’s fine.

Gaming “community” in a nutshell: spoiled and entitled.

Walmart has a system when if it’s not the release date, it won’t register. A manager can override it, but that makes the manager the prime target if the publisher finds out.

Ahhh, gotcha - I better understand where you’re coming from now :)

Oh, for sure! They’ve never really pretended it’s more than it is, and some people no question started assuming that there were a bunch of secret mechanics that literally no one ever mentioned.

Though your comment actually made me realize that we were low key talking past each other before. You seem to be talking about

But how will they find out? Who is gonna tell on them? The publisher isn’t going to interrogate them or look for evidence.

Yeah, those are the silly people I’ve mentioned, who blew their expectations WAY out of proportion with what the game has always been trying to present itself as.

Ugh. Their should of course be they’re.

I bought Street Fighter 5 at a small place in Culver City that breaks street date. They wouldn’t give me a receipt at the time, but they said I could come back the following week and get one. They used to give out receipts in the past at the time but they must have gotten in trouble so they worked around it.

To my knowledge, there is no law about selling games early. At most, it would be a breach of contract with the manufacturer and they could be sued, but probably won’t be.

Its kind of tricky. What usually happens is that 1 store breaks street date by accident, so 1 or 2 copies go out. Once that has happened stores around that store usually start selling their stuff because they’re afraid the other store broke street date on purpose and will take away sales.

They risk their relationship with the publisher, that’s about it.

Yes, they can. We have a popular shop here in NYC that broke the street date on a COD (of all things) back in the day and got busted. Not sure if it’s like this for all of them but they were basically told that after a warning, their distribution company would be notified and they’d basically be unable to order

Yes, if someone sends the publisher a copy of their receipt from the place of purchase, the retailer faces a $20,000 fine (not sure if that stacks based on the number of copies) and they could lose the right to sell games from that producer and publisher in the future.
