This is not true anymore. Latinos are twice as likely to claim “other” than white. That’s because the racial discourse in the US has an insufficient language for including Latinos, most of whom are mestizo of some sort. Hispanic is an ethnic marker, but so is Asian. Both are racialized categories/existences, though,

Tbh I kind of assume that most straight men are using that word amongst themselves. aside from my brothers and one or two close friends, I am verrry rarely comfortable around straight men.

U=U. We’re in the stretch to finally end the epidemic and it can’t happen without folks getting into care if they need it.

I know folks who worked for years in toxic, minimum wage retail jobs and who had the best year of their lives during the pandemic shutdowns. A lot of places stayed closed for months, even a year, and so they went on unemployment + UI enhancements. They are healthier, wealthier (and by that, I mean not totally broke),

Fire them and then investigate further. Chances are they’ve been up to some illegal shit and you can use that to get them to narc on the others in the police department.

You’d be well-served to also remember that it’s Black folks, particularly Black women, who have come out in strong support of multiracial allyship during this time. Many, many Black leaders and media outlets have already called out anti-Asian violence these last months (and many more months/years before that) and

It really is a shame. In a head-to-head, I think McAuliffe would be in trouble and McClellan or Carroll Foy could be super competitive. But with a field already pretty divided, I think his name ID helps him collect all the half-paying attention voters. Hope I’m wrong!

haha oh mannn, what’s Miley Cyrus doing with my old CD collection? Hole? Mazzy Star? Foundational bands for me.

There’s good work out there already on the limits of call-out culture. A writer for the NYT wrote a profile on Prof. Loretta Ross’s insights into this that was quite interesting. adrienne marie brown has also written quite a bit about this.

It’s unfortunate, to say the least, that the Black-brown coalition continues to be frayed by the pressures from the white power structures. Truth is, representation for both groups is atrocious in the Senate.

It’s more insane to me that most white women preferred the sexual predator in chief to a better-qualified opponent both times they were offered a chance to choose. Men of color have work to do to decolonize our minds of patriarchy, sure, but let’s not let white women off the hook here so easily.

She’s a grown woman who tackled a minor; she needs to be tried for assault and sentenced.

I also wish all food chain workers were paid a salary, regardless of formal education, and had benefits (or we had single payer!) and there were no shitty or abusive managers. Those are not bullshit jobs at all, and the fact that folks are making $500/week just indicates our messed up priorities tbh.

I think my issue is having to do bullshit work. My job right now is a university admin assistant. Doesn’t pay super well, but it’s easy and there are benefits and it’s just decent enough I’ll probably spend a few years there. But it’s pretty pointless and I know others know this, too, and it feels so freaking

If LW has the means, he should just rent an Air BnB for 10 days. 7 even. Just a trial run so you don’t have to pack up all your shit, but you get your stuff rolling along.

Dang, this is a really amazing review. Fantastic work here; you’ve gained a new reader. Going to check out your two books now.

I have a 16 year old sister who is on tik tok allll the time, and this is honestly one of my deepest fears that she’ll internalize some of these messages and develop some kind of disordered eating condition. I don’t stand for any self body-shaming, at least in my presence, and I make it a point to ask and celebrate

Also, any counter protestors have to openly support murder and racism...

Folks often forget the role of activism. One of those things is to push what’s considered possible in conventional thinking. There are very necessary and important roles for justice agitators, as well as policy makers. Sometimes those circles align, other times not so much.

Really great take. The sad thing is that spinning is actually a really accessible fitness activity for many folks new to exercise. Fun, intense cardio without as much strain on certain joints. (Obvi depends on resistance, etc., and it’s not true for everyone). But the aesthetic of SC and a lot of other boutique spin
