Everyone’s giving you shit about this because microwave ovens generate just that: microwaves, which are radio signals (light) at comparatively long wavelength (~12mm or 2.5Ghz) and high intensity.

That all depends on how you do it. I unstale bagels and other baked goods with paper towels and water. Steamed vegetables are not only crispy, but healthier when from the microwave because no vitamins get lost to a stovetop pot’s water.

Given that a defrost setting runs at about 500W, and that you’re using it for 30 minutes, and the national average of ~12 cents per kWh, it should thus cost $0.03 to dehydrate an apple in a microwave.
