Ugh. Every adjunct faculty member everywhere is incensed about this famous person getting a vanity academic job.
I call bullshit on your prank being good in any way.
Not even to mention violently misogynist, in this case.
From a sociocultural perspective, I entirely agree with getting rid of “illegal alien.” But it’s worth saying, purely as a matter of language, that all of the options for replacing it are unpleasant technocratic lingo. (Still should be done, however.)

Magary’s problem is not that Simmons is a prickly asshole. Read better.
No. “Hone” would work if you rewrite the sentence. As follows: “Let’s set aside the pure enjoyment of watching one knucklehead lob awkward, direct questions...and hone our understanding of how good a response to criticism this actually was.” That follows the meaning of “hone” you cite. “Hone in” — as in “sharpen in” —…

Man, you’ve really been duped.
That is a seriously unorthodox swing. Some reverse C action going on there. Knock-down follow-through. Love it.
Also she wrote “hone in” GRRRRRRRRRRR.
I was not aware of “let me google that for you.” Awesome.
