I happen to have a sensitivity to MSG and have been advised by several doctors to stay far away from it (I’m not willing to debate this with anyone, btw— that’s not why I mentioned it). So I’m not certain how common this is, or whether it’s related to my sensitivity issues, but to me msg, and even regular iodized table…
MSG, or umami, is the fifth taste. It’s associated with savoriness. Which, some people associate with meat, but it’s found in a lot of foods. It was first isolated from seaweed.
I'm pretty sure what they were trying to say is that it tastes like meat. Not that it's literally meat.
MSG would go a long way to offset the saltiness I feel about clickthrough slideshows.
