Speaking of the treatment of rape in fiction, and Donaldson: if we think Bester did not dwell enough on what rape means in Stars My Destination, how do we feel about Donaldson's treatment of it in the Covenant series? Because Donaldson certainly dwelt on it. Holy god did he dwell.

The Donaldson "Gap" series is the fucking WORST!

I don't think the POV of a modern reader is a fair standard to apply. If what the book does really would now be recognized as "the bare minimum" – well then Bester should be lauded for being ahead of his time.

Great idea for a feature! I felt like a fuddy-duddy asurrounded by hipsters; now I'm a targeted demographic! Awesome.

Same experience with Ultron. On first view I found it enjoyable, but over-long and over-complex. Its pace works better on second and third viewings.

Iron Man 1 still the best superhero movie of all time. The rest are worthy, and they certainly have enough geek cred, but –

Yeah. At least in Frank Miller's original story, Supes had just survived an atomic bomb blast. So it would make sense that he was a little weakened.

Garth Ennis' Punisher MAX series was the best comics storytelling from the big two in the 2000s. Complete awesomeness.

Is Daredevil vs Punisher confirmed? Because holy fuck.

If you give me two hours of Jennifer Connelly putting her stockings on like in the Rocketeer, I'm going to like it.

Logic never mattered in Marvel crossovers, except the original Secret Wars

you can pick up almost any MCU product that doesn't have a number in its name and it can be straightforwardly viewed as the first title in its given series.

Cap 1 was, to me, the most obvious one in terms of existing only to set up the Avengers movie. In itself it was merely serviceable.

Best part of Thor 2 was the fun sequence in the middle where all the characters bumped into each other, and randomly shouted each other's names. The director, whoever it was, played it for pure laughs. And it works.
Kat Dennings: "Mew mew!"

"so loath to dive into what Kilgrave’s mind control activities involving Jessica and other women really mean. It takes a while for the word “rape” to be said

I *love* Turner & Hooch.

We'll have to agree to disagree then. I was psyched to see this most recent MI, because I thought the director did a really nice job with Jack Reacher – it's a 70s- or 80s-era Chuck Norris movie released in the modern world, but it's extremely well-executed. So I was really surprised by the joylessness of it. Where

I enjoyed the Iron Man 20 mins. I actually wanted to see a little more detail after they rendezvoused with Damon. After they blew up the front of the ship, didn't they lose some needed velocity for getting back home? How badly did it screw up their return trip to Earth?

This Mission Impossible wasn't as good as Brad Bird's, plus it was oddly humorless. (Witty??) I'd hate to see it nominated over The Martian, for anything other than technical achievements.

Tin Cup's moral is a bit better than that, not that it's ok to be pigheaded & arrogant, but that even while being true to himself, this talented guy is going to get a shot at being on the Tour and having the career (or a significant portion of the career) that he could have had. During the hubbub at the end of the
