What you're ignoring is that Sansa knowingly put herself in that position. That's why it made no sense for the character and upset people.

The show producers sacrificed the values of Book IV/V by fasttracking through stuff/ignoring key characters like Aegon Targaryen/Tristayne Martell/the lot.

It can't be both "telegraphed" and "unearned". It can be telegraphed and hacky; but if they are telegraphing it, then it's definitely set up and earned.
