I’ve always been baffled by the hate Arliss gets. It wasn’t a great show by any means, but it was reasonably entertaining, and had a good cast - including Oh, Jim Turner, and Michael Boatman.

I think the punchline of the sketch actually underscores the joke with this reality - even when women get opportunities there is often an arbitrary limit on more that one woman at a time being allowed to make advancements.

Nah, not really.  I consider myself center-right, and I’m completely in favor of the book being thrown at these assholes.

I’d love to have more details, but it doesn’t seem like this was a zero-sum situation. The applicant wasn’t given a scholarship or spot on the rowing team (which are both, presumably, limited), they were just admitted with the lower standards that athletes get.
