This Is Jim Rockford...

I don't mean in the sense that Silver Age goofiness is bad, hell more comics need that and the odd humour is an intrinsic part of DP I mean that it treats the Silver Age DP as the key characters rather than the group as an evolving entity.

I mean his changes to Magneto we're pretty much the same and they were dialled back almost immediately. Not that I don't understand it in that case even if I don't outright hate it.

Yeah I was expecting more of a UA vibe, in hindsight I'm glad it's went off on it's own quirky way. I know Way's initial pitch for Doom Patrol started out as an OGN with Becky Cloonan so I'd be interested to know how much of that survived into the ongoing.

Yeah, I don't think it's so slavishly devoted to Morrison's style to be honest, I get more of that vibe from Cave Carson right now. A lot of this initial arc has been a catch up and everything about it down to the title feels like it's about sorting the Doom Patrol after a few years of middling revamps.

Grayson was a fun follow up, I'm not sure how I feel about Dr. Hurt being dug up to fight Dick again given how definitive the characters last appearance felt, like there's only so many times you can make the same "grand scheming villains don't stand a chance" point with him.

and Mignola's Hammer Horror influenced vampire novel.

I tend to wait a few years on Hellboy stuff because the trades are gorgeous, I did break the habit to pick up the last issue of Hellboy in Hell but that felt justified.

Oh and I'm finally getting round to finishing BPRD: Hell on Earth god-fucking damn as a group of titles the Hellboy stuff puts most other shared settings to shame. Excited to see where they take the world next.

I've soured on Tomasi after his god-awful Multiversity follow up, his B/R stuff was pretty fun but I don't know what possessed him to think redoing a moment Morrison had already subverted and playing it straight was a good idea.

Doom Patrol #6 - Bummed that this is the last issue until July but I'd take a schedule slip over losing Derington on art for a few issues, he's definitely the best artist on a DC book right now. Still loving the series and it's commitment to just being straight up pleasant.

Shit your right, it's an okay run but far from my favourite one. It makes most of the same mistakes as the god-awful Bryne revival but in a way that isn't too terrible. I think it relies too much on the notion that Silver Age Doom Patrol should be the default setting with other aspects added on and reworked to fit

Certainly Morrison's influence is all over Way's Doom Patrol but it's not something that bothers me given Morrison runs vary rarely get followed up in any meaningful way by other writers. I'm surprised by the amount of call-backs Giffen's run given how much of that was built around trying to re-do Doom Patrol classic

Little did they realise that the real treasure was…friendship, also gold but mainly friendship.

Abnett really needs a co-writer to even out his worst tendencies, his DC stuff is borderline unrecognisable trash compared to his Lanning joints.

Aye the most recent one is set during WW1 in various fronts.

This is the game VR was made for.

hey now the Falkland's based one could just have a permanent objective box for securing Thatcher's reelection

There's a rhyme game section that ends with you getting the clap in a French brothel.

Unity is a fucking nightmare, like war itself. *smokes pipe, is informed*
