Ah, but in the short followup "Let The Old Dreams Die," Oskar becomes something quite different:)

I agree almost completely with this review. The book was a good bit darker (Eli does indeed sleep in a tub, but submerged in blood, and pedophilia plays a pretty big role.) Still, this is exactly the movie that you could and should make out of such a book. I read that the author wept when he saw scenes from the movie,…
I'm into book 7 of his magnum opus, the Dark Tower series. His answer to Tolkien. IMDB shows this as "in development", but I think it's been this way for some time. I'd like to know how they're going to handle the thousands of pages in this series.
The Lifetime Network, where the theme to every movie is "One woman's struggle to _____" (fill in the blanks.)
IMHO, True Detective is the best TV made in 40 years. Sherlock is a close second (although not "new in 2014".)
I just finished "Dr. Sleep", King's revisiting of Danny Torrence from the Shining. Very well written except when it came to dialogue spoken by the teenage girl protagonist. His age is starting to show. I have a 14 year old, and they don't talk like that.
I agree about Koontz's writing. It's a great tribute to the fact that writing doesn't have to be great or even good to sell well. Peter Straub is better at the genre, but is not a book publishing machine like Koontz.
I think to some degree Chappelle is a victim of his own design. The viewership of the show, which was enormously popular with white audiences as well as black, centered around very irreverent humor, pushing-the-envelope-type content. That people who were attracted to this would also want to show up at his shows and do…
A woman not only struggling to be seen as a woman, but to be seen - more importantly - as relevant. I keep asking people if they listen to her music, and haven't found anyone yet who does. I'd be struggling to stay relevant, too.
Although I feel very little pity for him, I did laugh when I read that he complained about "wearing Geronimo's haircut" for the last 7 years. I always thought that was the stupidest haircut he wore on the Hannah show.
