That’s a difference in U.S. tow law versus Europe, not anything to do with the spec of the car.

That works surprisingly well. It really needs plaid seat covers and carpet mats (both) keyed to the exterior color to bring the retroness inside, though.
I honestly hated that design until I saw someone put that two-tone on it. Now I think that all of them should be painted like that, it saves the design.
The best modern ones:
Truth about the 67-72 trucks being the best looking.
I think that 1973-1987 gen in the last picture looks like shit. I never liked how they looked.
That 3,500# difference is a lot of lawyers.
“These dead bodies are not going to the bottom of the lake by themselves...”
Ford EcoSports for all!
Hey, I’m good with the Suzuki Samurai making a comeback and maybe skimming the gene pool a bit.
The economy crossovers are coming. We will soon see short, narrow, tall CUVs roaming the streets pretending they are cooler than minivans and station wagons and the only thing we can do about it is curl up in a ball in the corner and rock back and forth and cry deeply.
I love this. An honest cheap and cheerful car with a stick and enough buzz to leave a smile on your face. These (and other small econoboxes with a stick) are great to buy new. You save a ton of time and money having something that just works and has a warranty. It’s cheap to drive and own and allows you to have a good…
Agreed, for all the funky and questionable designs from Toyota and Honda, Hyundai seems to continue to make their cars more attractive
I hope Jalopnik runs more articles like this. It is easier to have fun driving a car like this in every day traffic than driving a larger, more powerful car. Slow car fast versus fast car slow, etc.
This is what cars should be. Simple, decent looking, and reasonably priced.
Nice to see a review of a basic car that doesn’t expect it to be a $35,000 car.
Meh, I don’t fret over drum brakes on economy cars. Disc/drum combination is more than enough stopping power for anything you could do with this car. Plus, drums last for freaking ever. My wife’s Honda Civic had over 200,000 when it finally moved on, and she never changed the rear shoes. So, it means a cheaper base…
I’m really shocked at how good the Accent looks for a basic entry-level economy car.
With average new car prices over $30k, it’s easy to forget that are still affordable options for basic transportation. This is a good reminder that cheap, competent cars are still around, and better than they have ever been.
Coulda been worse. Coulda broke his coccyx.
