Ive lived in Africa before. They'd take whatever they could get. I suspect the same of mexico, brazil, etc.

I lived in subsaharan africa for more than a year. These cars would be like giving/selling them Bentleys!
while they are emissions non-compliant, they meet us crash standards meaning a much higher chance of surviving a crash....but the developed world doesn’t really want to help those in less developed countries...they want to “help” them.
Also think that if they get shipped to developing countries these cars will be much safer, economical and reliable than the ones they already have, so it’s a win win scenario.
The damage done to the environment by scrapping 500k operable cars and replacing them with 500k new cars will far exceed the damage caused by high emissions of the TDi cars over the life of the cars.
Those wheels are going to be heavy and wreak havoc on the suspension of any vehicle they are on. A heavy wheel will have enough momentum that they will not follow the bumps in the road, and even worse when hitting a pothole will jump and stay off the ground longer than a lighter wheel.
This is stupid....these are on the same platform as the petrol models. Put compliant petrol engines in them and sell them to the developing world. You’ll get some or all of your money back and proceed to take a lot of heavily polluting vehicles off the road, especially in places that don’t have the pollution laws we…
Agree, its literally absurd.
Donate them all to the developing world. All of them. Provide new, reliable-ish personal transportation to folks who would love a new car, but can’t afford one.
Few Americans have ever been to the developing world, and no, a resort in Jamaica doesn’t count, despite the poverty they were…
This really ticks me off. More than the polluting issue. How is dumping a bunch of cars in a landfill the right decision in this case? The greenest car is the one that already exists.
The problem is that a tremendous amount of a car’s environmental impact comes from its initial manufacturing. Scrapping thousands of new and slightly used cars is terribly wasteful. Manufacturing thousands of replacements would probably do more damage to the environment than driving the offending cars for years.
I don’t think this is about the environment.
“Read every review of the Contour when it came out - the magazines couldn’t get over how great it was”
You have NO fact’s as no official stats are produced. Just polls, and guess what these same experts got wrong....The outcome of the referendum, and the last election. That’s twice when they only have a 50/50 outcome.
If you come from the USA would you allow, unrestricted immigration, laws being made in another country…
that’s a country music video you have right there! and a damn good one too!
Personal responsibility is becoming extinct. It’s becoming you can’t have something because of the actions of others and that’s a travesty.
The AR-15 IS NOT an assault rifle. Assault rifles MUST have selective fire, something the AR-15 does not have.
Not sure who patient zero is in this case.
As someone who has made a decent living working in Information Security: Yes, most people are idiots in this regard. I really wish the CIO would sign off on that taser I requested. That’ll learn em.
I suspected something was up this morning on Vortex when I saw at least three threads talking about how stock ride height and OEM wheels were the best because they were classy and understated.
No, no, no, he’s got it all wrong. Where he needs to enhance is the bottom of the windshield to get the VIN.
