They’ve launched Tundra, Sequoia, LX, GX, Tacoma and Land Cruiser in the last ~24 months, none with a NA drivetrain. Toyota is done with NA drivetrains for now.
I’ve owned a ‘21 LC convertible and now a ‘24. These are amazing cars. Mark from savagegeese owns one personally and gives the best reviews that I’ve seen of them. The car is bipolar: wake the neighbors loud when you want it to be, 32+ MPG 80+ MPH cruiser in 10th gear with Comfort mode on when you want it to be.
The new 4Runner will have this same 2.4L turbo (+ hybrid possibly) drivetrain. So the reliability crowd will be looking at 5th gen 4Runners in that case.
A modestly spec’d Land Cruiser is basically the same price as a GX550 Overtrail. The GX has a V6, tows 3000 more pounds and is just a nicer place to be.
I don’t think the main issue in this story is that the woman was hit by a car. If the photos in the article are where the accident occurred, this looks like a rural / 55 MPH highway with decently sized shoulders. There’s no crosswalk visible, no sidewalk alongside the road etc so there’s no expectation on the driver’s…
I’ve bought two, this car is excellent. But it’s expensive and not winning any performance comparisons, so nobody buys them.
Beancounters at Toyota HQ look at this car and say “we already make a convertible that nobody buys, why would we make another one?”
The impact in this test is not how these guardrails are intended to function or tested in the real world:
You’re kidding, right? Biden’s never had the 60 votes required
Because the current GX is the last V8 they put in passenger cars
Things to look for on the new GX please:
I help run an offroading event in Ouray Colorado each year, called the Rocky Mountain Toyota RoundUp (registration February 24th!).
1. Because the current GX is the last V8 they put in passenger cars. Everywhere else they use a V8, they’ve already switched to the 3.4L TTV6 in this new GX. Yes, it’s about their CAFE numbers.
Wonder where Roe v. Wade would be today had he done that.
A “lifetime bumper to bumper warranty” on a Wrangler? I have a hard time believing that the manufacturer would offer that. I assume this came from the dealership, probably with stringent maintenance / service requirements?
I have a 2018 built to offroad in Colorado and it is still all of these things. Had to go on a 600 mile road trip across Kansas in bad weather, took the 4Runner. Whenever I absolutely need to get somewhere, no matter the weather or terrain, it’s the one vehicle I know can handle whatever.
On this point, the idea that you’re going to take a modern transmission to a dealership and have them swap internals is laughable. Most mechanics these days just read codes and swap parts. And most of the time that works.
