One thing I notice about the folks who create new daily/weekly car content for money is that they seem to avoid the Japanese vehicles.  Lots of Germans, Italians, British for the real sadists.  But not many Japanese vehicles.

I wouldn’t consider the LC500 to be close to the LFA, but it’s about as close as Toyota’s going to get any time soon.  And you can go pick one up from a dealer, brand new, right now.

Another reason to always deal in out the door price.

However, I don’t understand an intermediate point between those 2 extremes for the purposes of a “lower monthly payment”.

I’m going to guess that this particular dealer probably sneaks that $599 fee into every contract, hoping that most people don’t catch it.

Refuting “the 4Runner has much better name recognition than the Land Cruiser in the States”, the people buying these trucks to offroad know the difference. The people not buying them to offroad are cross-shopping Highlanders and wondering why the 4Runner costs more. “Low range, what’s that for?”

The last nail in its coffin was when the Sequoia got a TRD Pro package. All of the sudden, you get a vehicle with more interior space (a LOT more space), better interior packaging, all that Toyota truck reliability, the same engine, and pretty darn close to the same off-road ability, for no-bull 20 grand cheaper.

The sequoia is a bit bigger, but its closer (tank wise) to a land cruiser than the 4runner.

Serious question: what are the advantages over a 4runner or sequoia? Better offroad capabilities overall? Reliability?

Take a similarly capable rig with the LS500H setup, get it to 22mpg combined (somehow?) and modernize the interior and you have a winner. Of course, it’ll be 100k, at which point ... it’ll also (only) be a Lexus.

Some of us have no interest in appliance cars at all. Or sitting in traffic every day.

Personal cars are not fleets.

Yeah, the idea that since it’s all “electric” nothing will break is just silly.

It’s not as good as the Y, but it looks close enough to get them the 50k sales they’re hoping for.

Well, to be fair....no one at Moab is running a $80k stock vehicle

If you want a big, loud, V8-powered SUV with *actual* off road ability (that isn’t a gigantic pickup truck), this and the G-wagen are your two choices.
