Toyota’s lifetime customer marketing plan:
Yes, let’s have Toyota make a sports car that no-one can afford because it’s too expensive.
Also, while you definitely want to get the lowest possible interest rate for any loan, if a difference of a few percentage points is a huge problem for you, then again, you probably can’t afford a new car in the first place. A $25,000 loan over 60 months costs $449 a month at 3% interest. Each extra percentage…
Traffic cams that tracked the car, or was it lo-jack’d?
And for the Land Cruiser, RC and LC, they have shared foundations, components, etc with other Toyota/Lexus models, none of which will exist for the Supra.
I think the Lexus brand gets more leeway to be creative because the profit margins are there.
They sell more versions of the “Land Cruiser” internationally, including a smaller verison that resembles the 4Runner / Lexus GX in size.
They specialize in low volume vehicles while Toyota is the master of high volume efficiency.
1. Regardless of lineage, if this thing is as good as the magazines say, who cares?
The biggest question is why Toyota didn’t just make a lighter, tighter version of one of the two seat Lexus models if they just wanted a GT car. The whole process seems flawed from conception to execution.
Same “good but not good enough” take way.
I’m not trying to detract from the legacy or anything... but why buy a Supra Turbo for $50k+ when you could just buy/import an Aristo or a turbo 2Jz variant engine for much less?
Can’t let too any amateurs in, otherwise how does Lance Stroll keep a job...
I’m probably the target demo for the Supra. I’m a huge Toyota fanboi who wants a sports car, can afford the Supra and thinks it looks AWESOME.
They couldn’t do 2+2, otherwise not starting with the Lexus RC platform would look really idiotic.
Having said that, “current industry dynamics favor high-volume cars,” Hollis said. That means that even when you’re Toyota and you sell more RAV4s than Porsche sells cars, period—and even when this is a car you want to make—it’d be madness to dump hundreds of millions of dollars into a niche sports car program at…
As for how strong that “helmet” is, the company had the vehicle crash-tested by Canadian safety outfit PMG Testing Labs which concluded that the Solo “withstood 20,617 pounds of force applied to the vehicle door, as compared to the 2,977-pound required minimum” per a press release. But Electra Meccanica and PMG’s…
