Dealers want to stock and sell desirable cars, regardless of the brand. The likely reason that this Infiniti dealer was able to offer a used BMW at a very competitive price is likely due to the market-based pricing for that particular car, and not really the fact that it was a BMW on an Infiniti lot.

I think the correct recommendation is a 4-door Tacoma with a bed rack and rooftop tent. Room for 4, sleeps 2, plenty of storage under the rack even when you’re sleeping up top.

Toyota’s shame is in not building the Supra themselves. Straight 6, new factory, any other excuse they come up with is laughable. They are known the world over for the Land Cruiser, it’s got a much lower production count than the Supra and still they spare no expense on it.

Maybe not the ugliest, but farther apart from how good the car looks:

If you like cars, don’t live in an HOA.

The Land Cruiser is compromised by the fact that it’s extremely low-volume and has barely changed over the last 15 years. It’s also eleventy-nine zillion dollars and sits in a market sector that’s growing rather than shrinking.

The new Lexus LS has a twin-turbo, 416 horsepower, 3.5L V6. They could have put that in the RC chassis and called it the Supra.

I think you’re giving his influence at the company less credence than it deserves. Toyota, as a company, does things very, very well. If they’re going to make a car for a purpose, they usually do pretty damn well at it. And they generally do it in an incredibly efficient and cost-effective manner.

The 86 needs more power, and the Supra needs a manual/less BMW-ness. But he obviously does not think so.

Obviously you haven’t read the incredibly convincing comments made by internet engineers that totally refute the decisions Tada has made.

“The Supra had to have an inline-six. BMW had a good inline-six.”

but the RX7 was the greatest Japanese sports car of the bubble era of all time

$16K for a GX with practically no miles that cost ~$60K new is a friends&family deal from a rich person who doesn’t need the money.  This is such a no-brainer that it’s hurting my brain to think how anyone would ever say no.

but have found a 2012 Lexus GX460 (one owner) with 5,700 miles, garaged in summer and driven only seasonally by the part time residents. Serviced regularly with all records, $16,000. But it will not be available until the owner returns in the Fall. Should I wait?

While I love cars, I fucking hate car ownership.

Then you have a monthly payment on a depreciating asset

The weakest link in the customer service experience is the bit that directly interacts with the customer.

I must have taken a lot of guys and lots of expensive tools to pull this out.

Not that many people like being convinced otherwise nowadays

before you say it’s worse than a 10 year old Nissan

The best part of the 25 year ban being up to ~1993 now is that you’re starting to see some RHD NSXs make it to the US. And they’re not too bad for the cost at Mecum / Barrett Jackson.
