I may be missing something here but where is the problem with them locking the higher difficulties until you beat the game for the first time? Once I beat the game I was able to create new characters and play them on whatever difficulty I wanted (unless I wanted to play with someone who hadn't beaten the game yet).

Yeah I got that. I was more making a statement about them establishing that she likes to play video games in the first episode. If you want to be that way about it you don't see her playing many video games in any episode.
