I've been revisiting Night Court as an adult now that it's in heavy play on the Antenna TV (Or maybe Laugh TV?) in Los Angeles. Things that succeed on the internet are lazy and usually co-opted from someone/where else. The majority of people are stupid and lack critical thinking. Going after people merely for using a word is lazy if you don't even consider what they are trying to say. If you don't even consider intent. That's what these comics are talking about. These critics aren't the PC police. They're just self righteous bullies.

Carson was not an amazing comedian but he was a proficient one. He was a professional one. He could deliver jokes and didn't have to rely on eye batting to muscle through a monologue. He also had the nerve to, on occasion, challenge guests. Not in a loud way but in a pointed and decidedly intelligent way. He

Fallon is a pandering impressionist who can't sell a joke to save his life. So the show is tailored to his strengths, that's all. Fallon's affability is potent and irksome when you see him lumber through his monologue.
